Mar Lamberg (they/them) is a sculpture, installation and textile artist and PhD candidate in the Binational Artistic PhD Program at HfK Bremen (University of the Arts Bremen) in cooperation with the School for Contemporary Arts at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada.
In their artistic and research-based work Lamberg focuses on the exploration of the human body and spaces though movement. How can artistic interventions serve as catalysts for differentiated experiences? In times of a drastic societal shift to the political right and ongoing restrictions on physical self-determination, it becomes essential to ask about the conditions for diversity of human experiences with and though body and space. How can norms and conditions of experiences be reshaped? Here, the found everyday architectural environment often serves as a foundation for the artistic process.
Lamberg studied at the Kunsthochschule Kassel, the Faculty of Visual Arts at the University of Victoria (Canada) and the Faculdade de Belas Artes at the University of Lisbon (Portugal). In 2022, they graduated with distinction from the Kunsthochschule Kassel. From 2023 to 2024, they were Meisterschüler*in of Prof. Florian Slotawa.
For their PhD project, Lamberg is supervised by Prof. Dr. Andrea Sick (HfK Bremen) and Prof. Sabine Bitter (SFU Vancouver).

This thread installation was created on the abandoned site of the former Muskator animal feed plant for the ibug 24 (International Festival for Urban Art). The work questions the interface between function and aesthetics. The remnants of the industrial architecture, that was designed for pure functionality, form the basis for the aesthetic exploration of the space. The threads guide viewers along new paths across the Futtermittelverladestation (i.e., feed loading station).

This site-specific installation of elastic threads addresses questions about both the directions of view and the directions of movement in the documenta Halle in Kassel. Architectural structures are made (in)visible by changing one´s own position, and illusions of spatial depth are created.

How do we move through spaces?
The site-specific installation Papaya in the Project Space explores the geometric spatial patterns of the project space of the Kunsthochschule Kassel by deconstructing the shape of the staircase and transferring its individual surfaces into the space. This restructures the space and, similar to the staircase itself, guides movement in and through the space.

The work ____________bridge investigates questions of volume, density and transparency that can only be experienced by changing the viewer's position beneath this site-specific installation, consisting of 11 kilometers of transparent nylon monofilament. The work at the documenta Halle Kassel is the artistic result of a practical as well as theoretical examination of bridges that can not only be understood as a connecting link or as part of the “in-between”: by bridging a boundary or threshold, the immersive work enables a changed perception of the space. By one's own movement through the gallery the initial indistinct flickering in the air slowly fades and shifts into sharp light-reflecting surfaces.
